Despite not having a single hit in her kitty, actress Sonam Kapoor has made her presence felt in Bollywood with her elegance and style but this time it was her sister Rhea who impressed us with her subtle chic sense of style and poise with her first formal public appearances on Sunday, at the music release of the forthcoming movie ‘Aisha’. She chose the midway between a dire professional look and a young breezy style with a a pair of slim-fitted black pants from Alexander Wang, a white top from Zara and an asymmetrically-cut semi-formal jacket with white piping from Elizabeth & James. She completed her look with smart booties from Alexander Wang and earrings borrowed from her mother for the evening.
Made under dad Anil Kapoor’s banner, the movie has the honor of being Rhea’s first production venture. Rhea began her career as an assistant director with Ayan Mukherjee in Wake up Sid.
Bollywood stylist Rajat Tangri comments on the two sisters’ style funda saying, “While Sonam’s style is more out there and fun, Rhea sticks to understated and functional fashion. Their dressing styles clearly reflect the professions they have chosen. Sonam wears a lot of girlie dresses, pinks and frills just like a la-di-dah movie star. But Rhea is seen in pants and interesting jackets, quite like a young producer who attended school in New York. Even when Rhea has done the girlie dressing routine, on red carpet-outings with her family, she has stuck to the classic little black dress.”
Tangri adds, “What made Rhea’s style stand out at the event was that she chose the smart style of an uptown professional, true to her part as a producer. On the other hand, the cast of the movie - all girls her age, including Sonam, Lisa Haydon, Ira Dubey and Amrita Puri - wore feminine silk dresses and sequinned minis.”
Rhea had recently revealed her love for tailored trousers on Twitter, when she asked Sonam to get her some from Scotland. Sonam has been shooting in Scotland for Mausam with Shahid Kapur.

NEW ORLEANS — Janet Jackson enthralled the Essence Music Festival audience Friday, kept them on their feet for more than two hours and reminded fans why seeing her in concert was worth waiting two years.
From the opening notes of "The Pleasure Principle" to "Control" to "Rhythm Nation," the Grammy Award-winning singer enticed, teased and brought her fans on a journey through her No. 1 hits.

"She was unbelievable," said Ed Downs of Miami. "It was definitely worth the wait. I'm happy to see her make a comeback. It was impressive."

Jackson marked her return by closing the festival's first night inside the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. It was her first time at the festival, which runs through Sunday.

Former NBA player Anferenee Hardaway called Jackson's performance "absolutely perfect," and said no one could tell she had been off the concert circuit for any length of time.

"She definitely gets better with age," he said, smiling.

Fans got a glimpse of Jackson's new, sassy, short-cropped hair and her signature, shapely figure on the finale show of American Idol where she rocked classics like "Again" and "Nasty" and her latest release, "Nothing," from the soundtrack of the movie, "Why Did I Get Married Too?," which she also starred in.

But near the end of her show Friday, they were treated with even more as she depicted a risque, S&M scene with a male participant from the audience, whose hands and arms were strapped into a straight jacket as Jackson — in a flesh-toned body suit — worked him over, whip in hand.

He mouthed, "Thank you," and couldn't take his eyes off her, getting roars of approval, looks of envy and applause from the crowd.

"I loved it," said Rose Ellerbee of New York. "It was one of the hottest shows I've seen and then she brought back so many memories. She didn't lose a beat."

Michelle Ebanks, president of Essence Communications Inc., was as excited as anyone to hear Jackson in person. She said festival organizers had invited Jackson numerous times during the last 15 years and this year she finally accepted.

"Prayer works," Ebanks said laughing.

The festival is celebrating the magazine's 40th anniversary this year and Ebanks said they wanted to do so by putting the spotlight on strong, powerful female artists. In addition to Jackson, the lineup includes Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, Monica, Keri Hilson, Chrisette Michele, Lalah Hathaway, Melanie Fiona, Estelle, Ledisi, Laura Izibor and New Orleans' own Irma Thomas.

"It means a great deal for me to be in the company of such wonderful women, women who I have the pleasure of knowing personally," Jackson said in an interview before her performance. "I'm especially honored to be able to play on a stage that also hosts Gladys Knight. She watched me grow up and I remember her being around the Motown family when I was a kid. It's definitely an honor."

She needed no introduction and didn't get one – such was Mary J. Blige's stature at the Essence Music Festival on Sunday. From the moment she strode onstage seemingly out of nowhere she exuded the star power befitting a nine-time Grammy winner.

Even before her voice kicked in, her outfit commanded attention: a glittering silver-and-gold jacket over a black top; square silver earrings and belt; silver and gold sparkles adorning black tights; and trademark silver-encrusted black sunglasses worn beneath a dyed blonde mane.

As she worked her way through up-tempo material such as The One, I Love You and the new I Feel Good, giant disco balls spun and her native Manhattan's skyline flashed on the giant screen behind her. Blige took the audience "back to the old-school school"' with 1992's Love No Limit, then slowed the pace by letting her guitarist weave a beautiful flamenco-style instrumental.

That led into the ballad We Got Hood Love, which featured a surprise appearance by Trey Songz, who sang on the record and who had opened the evening with his own main-stage set. Blige then cranked it back up with a titanic version of I Am as new New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu and wife Cheryl grooved up front.

After leading a sing-along on the Rose Royce soul classic I'm Going Down, Blige launched into the emotional centerpiece of the night, a cathartic, defiant rendering of No More Drama. The climax found her squatting and beseeching the crowd to rise up with the exhortation: "You don't have to worry about being perfect – whoever you are is the flyest thing God sent this earth. There is only one you.''

Drenched with sweat from delivering her gospel, Blige somehow rallied for the good-timing Good Love, which featured a surprise appearance and brief rap by T.I., with whom she recorded the song. Blige then ended the nearly 90-minute set with "something for the lovers in the house tonight,'' a raucous Be With You Tonight.

On the same day the American Idols Live tour kicked off near Detroit, Mich., at least one of the tour's dates was canceled, and other cities have seen the dates of their shows moved.

A call Saturday afternoon to the box office of the Quickens Loan Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, confirmed that the show scheduled there for Sept. 11 was canceled on Thursday. Additionally, calls to Ticketmaster's automated box office found that tickets for scheduled shows in Omaha, Neb., and Kansas City, Mo., "aren't for sale through Ticketmaster right now."

Also, music industry Bob Lefsetz published an email from an unnamed agent claiming that some of the tour's dates have been canceled.

Meanwhile, the concert originally scheduled for Sept. 13 at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn., has been moved up to July 9. And Lee DeWyze tweeted Saturday that his hometown show, at Chicago's United Center, has been moved up from Aug. 30 to Aug. 28.

The shifts in the tour schedule come during what's shaping up to be a rough summer for many tours. Several high-profile tours, including Lilith Fair and the Jonas Brothers, have recently canceled dates.
